Forum: audio Subject: how to find uploaded mp3 file

I just uploaded a large mp3 file to the archive. I can see the file within the folder in my ftp client. But I can't find the file within the archive. Isn't there some easy way I can find it? I've tried searching using the name I gave the file when I uploaded ("Israeli Lebanese peace music radio show") & failed to find it. I've looked under recent audio uploads & failed to find it.

Is there no profile through which I might be able to access anything I've uploaded?

UPDATE: I found the file here by looking under contributions:

But when I click on the link I get an error. Does it take a certain amt. of time before the file is logged in the archive & available for use? I looked at the list to see where the file was in the queue & could not find it listed.

Hi,

I'm guessing that after you uploaded the file, you forgot to check it back in.

The computer automatically checks the item back in after 48 hours, though, so it is available for you to continue the upload process now.

Make sure you're logged in to the site, go to the URL above, and choose the correct collection for your item. On the next page, you'll put in title, description, etc. Once that's done, your item will be live on the site in 10-20 minutes.

Thanks,

Alexis

Thanks for finding the file & providing the link. I appreciate it.

I might've missed it but I didn't see anything in the upload instructions explaining that you had to "check a file in" after uploading it. Could you tell me how you do that?

Sure! When you create an item (or check it out, after creation), you get a "checkout" page. This is the page that tells you what exact server to upload your item to.

Also on that page, in both the Internet Explorer and FTP client sections, you'll see information on how to check the item back in.

If you're using IE, you'll double click the icon that says "Click here when done."

If you're using an FTP client, you'll return to the checkout page and click the checkin link found in the FTP section.

Basically, that tells the server, "I'm done uploading to this directory, and now I want you to start processing my files." If you don't check the item in, the server will just sit there thinking that you still want to upload stuff. It will, however, automatically check your item back in for you after 48 hours.
